Daemen now offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation degree through the Daemen International Center for Excellence in Animation, located in 17,000 square feet on the fifth floor of the Tri-Main Center in Buffalo.
Operated through the International Center, Daemen’s animation program is structured with a partnership with the National University of Mongolia in Ulaan Bataar, Mongolia. The College is in the process of developing additional collaborations. Daemen’s animation program is also fully integrated with IBC Digital, a Western New York animation studio.
“The International Center’s program is unique in its response to industry feedback, responding to professionals who see a deficiency of animators with a high level of artistic training,” said Daemen President Dr. Edwin Clausen. “Students in Daemen’s animation program will be trained as artists and thinkers, and will be able to transfer their creative strengths directly into career fields such as computer-generated imagery, website design, film, television, and computer gaming.”
Students who graduate from the program will be able to operate on a both a creative and a technical level – skilled in the latest software, with the training to think as an artist. The curriculum will foster the development of well-rounded learning experiences, better enabling students to actively participate in a variety of career and professional environments.
To enable students in the program to gain career experience, Damen has entered into a partnership with Buffalo, NY, animation studio IBC Digital. A strong creative force in the industry, IBC is a producer of national commercials, animated television series, and projects for clients such as MTV; Disney; PBS; and brands including Trix; Cocoa Puffs; Reese’s; and Kid Cuisine.
“Daemen’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation degree is created to be world class,” said IBC Digital President Ben Porcari. “Students will have all of the advantages of an accredited degree program, a strong arts foundation, and integrated international partnerships and industry programs. Students will be very well-positioned upon graduation to achieve success in this rapidly growing industry.”
